The Collapse of the Human Cockpit
The "Medical Singularity": Chuck Yeager and the sound barrier as a metaphor for information volume outgrowing human capacity.
Using the image of Chuck Yeager breaking the sound barrier, the authors describe what they call the "Medical Singularity": the point at which the volume of scientific literature, exams and clinical data generated every day definitively exceeds what any physician can process alone, even after decades of study. The chapter argues that denying this collapse of human capacity is as risky as a pilot ignoring the cockpit instruments at high speed, and that AI arrives not as a luxury but as the new instrument panel needed to fly contemporary medicine safely.
